Looking For Trouble.....

Good afternoon, with spring upon us this is a good time to think about the spring projects you are considering. The gutters are a good place to start after the winter months they should be cleaned, re-pitched and re-secured. Check the roof system for missing shingles and debris that may have collected on the roof especially the valley areas. check the flanges around the pipes that stick up through the roof, the rubber centers are key and must not be dry rotted, cracked or separated from the flange around them. Keep an eye out for curled, lifted and damaged shingles. Do not forget to check the chimney if masonry look for loose or missing brick, stone, or concrete. If you have a Chase box be sure to check the metal cap on top. Look for loose siding or trim on that chase box. Check the interior of the attic space for leaks that may have occurred especially around any penetration. Spend some time walking around the house and check for loose siding or trim. Check the windows and the surrounding trim, is it in need to caulking? Check the siding for loose or missing pieces. Check that all the downspouts are connected the gutter and the house. Be sure they are directing water away from the foundation. Check the area around the front door, many of us enter the house from the garage and never really see what's happening in this area. If the entry is concrete and/or brick/stone look for separations in the joints, check for loose brick or stone. Check all wood decks, porches, etc for rotted, deteriorated, or delaminated sections. Also check all penetrations that go thru the walls or foundation ie; gas lines, hose spigots, cable wires, and around the electric meter.

Make a list of things you find and fix them before they become big problems. Preventive maintenance is much less expensive than repairs. If your unsure call in the experts. Most homeowners have a contractor they trust and can work with. We have many customers we work with, we offer inspections, with cure and cost of cure. Be safe and Come On Spring!!!
